When many people purchase their tent at the camping store, they expect this purchase to last awhile so they can use it for many camping seasons. With just a little care and thought there is no reason why hiking tents cannot last for years. The ground the tent is setup on is where the most potential is more damage but this can be avoided by placing a ground cloth between the tent and the ground. By simply making sure there are no rocks or sticks where you are going to set up your tent and then using a ground cloth the bottom should remain free holes for years of use.
